Satan

Isaiah 14:12-15

“How you are fallen from heaven,
    O Day Star, son of Dawn!
How you are cut down to the ground,
    you who laid the nations low!
13 You said in your heart,
    ‘I will ascend to heaven;
above the stars of God
    I will set my throne on high;
I will sit on the mount of assembly
    in the far reaches of the north;[a]
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
    I will make myself like the Most High.’
15 But you are brought down to Sheol,
    to the far reaches of the pit.

Sermon Notes

"From the beginning of his ministry (Matthew 4:1–11) to the end (Luke 22:3), Jesus was in conflict with the powers of darkness. And it is the clear teaching of the apostles, Peter (1 Peter 5:8), James (James 4:7), John (1 John 2:13; 3:8; 5:18), and Paul (1 Thessalonians 3:5) that Satan is against the church and must be resisted by faith and the word of God. We do well to know his tactics."

John Piper

  • Who is Satan? According to the Bible where does he come from and how did he fall?

  • What tactics does Satan use to disrupt the plans of the God?

  • What three things do Christians struggle against? How can a Christian resist the devil?

Scriptures to Consider

  • Matthew 4:1-11

  • Genesis 3

  • Job 1
