Good News

Sunday is Palm Sunday
where we celebrate Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem.

You’ll find this recorded in each of the 4 gospels. (Matthew 21, Mark 11, Luke 19 and John 12) This happened one week before Jesus’ Resurrection. To understand the significance of this symbolic event, it is helpful to know that:

1. The Greco-Roman culture at that time used Palm Branches to
rejoice after a triumphant victory.
2. Ancient Egyptian religions waved Palm Branches at a funeral to
Symbolize eternal life and victory over death.
3. When a King would ride into a city on a horse it symbolized War but
when he came in on a donkey, he was bringing Peace.

Jesus came into Jerusalem that Sunday, after raising Lazarus from the dead, riding on a colt, the foal of a donkey (Zechariah 9:9) and the crowd knew he was worthy of Highest Honor. They laid down their cloaks and palm branches declaring him to be Israel’s Victorious King. They were praising and rejoicing as they shouted, “Hosanna!” (Mark 11:9 -10) “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Psalms 11:26) When the Pharisees told Jesus to rebuke his disciples Jesus replied, “If they keep quiet the stones will cry out.” (Luke 19:38 – 40)

The children will be celebrating Jesus  waving palm branches, rejoicing and recognizing He is the King of Kings, the Prince of Peace, Victorious over death and worthy of all our praise. Join us! Hosanna, Christ saves.

The Preteen class will begin by presenting the song, “Arise my Love” Please notice the words in the bridge of the song: Sin, where are your shackles? Death, where is your sting? Hell, has been defeated, the grave could not hold the King.
