Learning and Listening

SERMON NOTES

“I’ve come to believe that hearing the quiet whisper of the transcendent God is one of the
most extraordinary privileges in all my life and potentially the most transforming dynamic
of the Christian faith."
-Bill Hybels- “Whisper of God”

"Authority is not passed on to younger leaders. The next generation, raised in the American
cultural context, becomes frustrated and desires a level of trust and empowerment that
invites them to take on delegated authority. This generation either remains an untapped
spiritual resource or they simply walk away from faith, because their experience with faith
has been one of a system of control rather than as a journey in a relationship with God and
others. "
-Chuck Davis- “The Bold Christian”

"First, it is easier to hear God’s voice on the go if we have spent time listening in stillness
Second, if we are going to hear God’s voice distinctly, we must make sure all barriers are
removed."
Rob Riemer- “River Dwellers”

  • Jesus listened to the teachers and asked questions. Jesus saw great importance in
learning and being in the Fathers house. Jesus grew in wisdom and stature. Do you
allow yourself to learn from others and from God or have you become unteachable?
  •  Jesus makes sure to spend personal time in the presence of God. How much time
do you spend listening for direction from God? How much time do you spend just
resting in the presence of God?
  • Elihu “I am young in years and you are old; that is why I was fearful.” Does fear
    control which path you take?

    Scriptures to Consider

    •  Proverbs 1:7
    •  Luke 2: 41-52
    •  Mark 1: 35-39
    •  Job 32, 33:12-18, 34:1-4

Dear Spruce Grove Alliance
Church family,
We are writing to express our sincere thanks for the kind words of support we have received over the past several months as we have been transitioning from the SGAC Staff Team. We wish to express, too, our gratitude for the recent love offering we received. Each gift was deeply appreciated.
We ask that you would continue to remember us in your prayers. You will not be forgotten.
