Heart of a Rebel, the Sequel

Micah 6:8

He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?

SERMON NOTES

Sometimes when we read a good book or watch an emotional charged movie, we wish we could experience a sequel. The story shouldn’t just end.

So we leave Jonah with God asking the selfish, rebellious prophet, “Should I not pity Nineveh, that great city?”

Jonah, Micah, Isaiah and Amos all served as prophets of God in approximately the same time period.

Over and over God’s beloved people had sinned and fallen short of God’s standards. God sent messengers to them and pleaded with them for repentance.

Repentance means turning around. It means forsaking an old sinful lifestyle and turning toward the God of love and care who gave His only Son to redeem us from the curse of sin and death.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 3:23: “..for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

He also wrote (Romans 6:23) “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Micah spells out simply how we should then live – Justly, Mercifully and in Humility before our God and man.
