Who's God Calling?

Galatians 1:1-5

Greeting

Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— and all the brothers[a] who are with me,

To the churches of Galatia:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Sermon Notes

God did not direct His call to Isaiah— Isaiah overheard God saying, “. . . who will go for Us?” The call of God is not just for a select few but for everyone. Whether I hear God’s call or not depends on the condition of my ears, and exactly what I hear depends upon my spiritual attitude.

-Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

  • Why do you think Paul put such an emphasis on his Apostolic calling at the beginning of this letter?
  • What is an Apostle? How is Paul using the Word and Position of Apostle in Galatians 1:1?
  • Who is the audience that Paul is primarily writing too? Are they believers or unbelievers? Is it one Church or many Churches?

Scriptures to Consider

  1. Acts 13:13-14:23
  2. Acts 15
  3. Romans 3
