Conflict

Galatians 2:11-14

 Paul Opposes Peter

11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party.[a] 13 And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

Sermon Notes

"Many of us [in the church] are like porcupines trying to huddle together on a bitter cold night to keep each other warm, but we continually poke and hurt each other the closer we get "

Howard Hendricks Quoted by Alexander Strauch, Leading With Love, Lewis and Roth, 2006, p. 169.

  • How do you deal with Conflict?  Has anyone ever taught you from a Christian perspective how to handle disagreements?  What does it look like to love those who disagree with you?

  • What is at the heart of Peter shrinking back from fellowship with the Body of Christ in Antioch?

  • Why was it important for Paul to Confront Peter in front of others?  What was at stake?

Scriptures to Consider
