Dear Son, A letter to Timothy – A Faithful Minister

“Do Your Best”

2 Timothy 2

SERMON NOTES

Paul was facing death when he wrote this book of 2 Timothy. He was not dying of a disease in a hospital with loved ones gathered nearby. He was very much alive, but his condition was terminal. He was sentenced and convicted to die because of his faith in Jesus, His belief in Jesus and for being a follower of Jesus Christ.

Paul knew his purpose for living and that is to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.” Philippians 1:21-24 (NIV).

Most Bible scholars consider this the key verse that clearly states Paul’s motive and his mission. No wonder his life had such power. Paul is truly focused on Jesus Christ that though he suffered a lot for believing in Jesus, to him, it’s a life worth living.

Do you know your purpose or the reason why you are here on earth?

Rick Warren again said, “How you define life determines your destiny. Your perspective will influence how you invest your time, spend your money, use your talents, and value your relationship.”

2 Timothy 2:15, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
