Baptism of the Spirit
Act 1:1-5

The Promise of the Holy Spirit

In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.

And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

SERMON NOTES

“The Spirit-filled life is not a special, deluxe edition of Christianity. It is part and parcel of the total plan of God for His people.” - A. W. Tozer

  • Acts speaks much about the Holy Spirit. Why do you think the Book of Acts has such an emphasis on the Holy Spirit?
  • What is the role of the Holy Spirit? What does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit? What is the evidence of being filled with the Spirit?

Scriptures to Consider

  • Ephesians 5:11
  •  Ephesians 5:11
  • John 173. Luke 11:13; Matthew 7:11
