Dear Son – a Letter to Timothy  - ‘The Life of the Church’

There is a huge difference in the sport of water-skiing and the sport of SCUBA diving.  True, both involve water but while the first one has that exhilarating rush of the wind and the wake, the second boasts the exhilarating experience of seeing the beauty of the plant and land formation as well as moving in and among the glorious creation of fish and other deep-water creatures.

Today, I want to take us on more of a ‘water-skiing’ experience than a ‘SCUBA dive.’

The older I get the more I appreciate those ahead of me and their valuable words of wisdom taken from years of life-changing experiences.  The Apostle Paul, in a great mentoring role provided Timothy with five ‘charges’ or ‘orders’ regarding the life of the church.  He essentially said, “Timothy, listen, God has great things for you.  Make sure you follow His ways, His Word will fill you and bless you.  Read it!  Heed it!  Hide it in your heart!  Live it out before others!  It’s so worth it!”

1 Timothy gives us a great introduction or foundation to 2 Timothy.

For further study:

I urge you to read the first letter of Paul to his ‘son in the faith’, Timothy. The average reader can complete the read in 16 – 20 minutes.
