Great Things: Celebrate & Anticipate

We welcome Pastor Roland Hoeppner, who pastored at SGAC fifty years ago, as he shares from God’s Word this morning.

It's our Jubilee Year! It's the 50th anniversary of Spruce Grove Alliance Church! It's time to celebrate!  (Blowing of the ram's horn.)

A Jubilee year, in Bible times, was announced by the blowing of a ram's horn. It was the year celebrated after 7 cycles of 7 years. A "sabbatical", a Sabbath year. It was celebrated with rest, and restoration. Even resting the land from producing, to recover nutrients for the next crop. Freedom was proclaimed for those in bondage to debt, and slavery.

It was a shift in the communal life of the people.

A time of returning to family and loved ones. A special time dedicated to coming together to acknowledge God.

The year of Jubilee was a foreshadowing of the work of Jesus' death and resurrection; a foreshadowing of the release from bondage and spiritual debt. Freed to connect with our loving God, through the work of the cross.

Today we pause as a church community to honor this milestone. To ponder the kindness of God in bringing us to this day. We are reminded, with gratitude, of the community of the past: some of you who cast vision, planted, sent and grew into what was.

We are grateful for the community of the present: you who come now and nurture a growing, caring community, as we learn to grow in loving Jesus and looking out for one another.

And we anticipate with eagerness the community of tomorrow: the youth and children; those in the homes of our neighbourhood, our city and even beyond. All of us growing together to experience the peace and freedom   Jesus offers.

A Jubilee is a fresh start. A new beginning. This church, and now this beautiful Community Life Center,          represents just that. An open door to welcome in, welcome back and welcome one another.

And why do we do this? Because our hearts matter to God.

Your heart matters to God. The heart of this church matters to God .....

And because ...  Spruce Grove matters ... to God.

That's why God reminds us in the Bible: "Above all else, guard your heart, for from it flow the springs of life".   Proverbs 4:23

This Jubilee celebration is our declaration, as a church....

"We will guard our hearts before God, and before one another, so the well springs of life, the refreshing         freedom and release offered from Jesus, will characterize us afresh as a community of believers, welcoming all who seek His peace. Because all our hearts matter to God."

Thanks for being here. Its so good to celebrate together! God bless you!
